Worcester Lodge is a specialist dementia residential home in Clevedon, North Somerset, offering support for 37 residents. Established during the COVID-Pandemic, it is run by the same experienced management staff that run Osborne House, which has been supporting dementia sufferers in Clevedon for ten years.
This is no ordinary care home though as Development Manager: Suzanne McPadden explains,
“Our long-term mission is remove all controlled care, by allowing our residents to be as independent for as long as possible. We pride ourselves on only employing specialist dementia-trained staff across the board, from our carers to our kitchen staff. We want our residents to feel as comfortable as possible and our latest renovations reflect our commitment to the highest standards of person-centred care.”
All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, for maximum privacy and the Lodge has gone the extra mile by personalising each door, with photos of each resident outside to enhance staff and resident bonding.
With three communal living areas throughout, there is plenty of space to relax and unwind or take advantage of the many activities on offer such as yoga or the DJ music sessions.
“We make a point of getting to know each resident individually and finding out about their past occupations or hobbies. This then influences all the activity pods stationed around the Lodge. We have keyboards for a previous musician or blackboard for a teacher, helping our residents connect with their past memories.
Each resident will have continued care from the same two carers throughout their stay, allowing for maximum relationship-building and with a 50:50 male/female ratio, we have both male and female staff to reflect this,” added Suzanne.
The meals are prepared on-site by the kitchen staff and residents are given a choice of three options daily: meat, fish or vegetarian dishes, with jacket potatoes with fillings available throughout the day if peckish.
Worcester Lodge also offers respite (short term placements) and day care services for those living with dementia. These are invaluable services both for the family members and guest residents. In fact, the placements are often so popular that many become permanent residents.
The refurbishments are due to be completed soon, with just the garden area remaining. The front garden is spacious and the back area has raised beds with flowers planted to attract butterflies, for the residents to enjoy throughout the summer months.
