In 2019, there were 2.2 million visits to Scotch Whisky distilleries, making it a hugely popular tourist destination. (source: Scotch Whisky Association).
Award-winning Bladnoch Distillery is one of the world’s oldest, privately owned Scotch Whisky Distilleries and hugely popular with visitors.
Situated in Bladnoch, in the Scottish Lowlands near Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway, the distillery overlooks the river Bladnoch. Originally established in 1817 by the McClelland family, there has been a succession of owners during its rich 209-year history. In 2017, the Australian entrepreneur David Prior purchased the distillery and reopened the visitor centre in 2019. We poured a wee dram of whisky and chatted to Visitor Centre Manager Philip Gladwin,
“We sell a wide range of Single Malt scotch from our core range of Vinaya, Liora, Samsara and Alinta to our age-statement: 11year, 14year, 19year and 30year. We do also have our Pure Scot Range which compromises of our Blended Scotch Range.
Customers can buy our products from here at the distillery show, online through our store and at a number of retailers around the country and abroad.”
Bladnoch Distillery has an award-winning range, including the multi-award-winning Samsara single malt and Bladnoch Talia (Gold award: World Whiskies 2020). The 11-year-old Bladnoch is bourbon-matured, with a striking golden colour. With a delicate floral scent and sweet finish, this is a favourite among customers.
These single malts are truly the ‘Queen of the Lowlands’ and has stockists as far flung as Australia and the USA. With 100% vegan and gluten-free options available, there is a single-malt whisky for everyone.
There are distillery tours from Tuesday-Saturday with expert guides, ending with a popular tasting of three popular whisky choices. This is the perfect opportunity to find out everything about the mystical art of whisky distilling. Previous visitors have awarded glowing five-star reviews on Trip Advisor, praising the expert knowledge and delicious whisky tasting.
The team at Bladnoch are happy to welcome you to an unforgettable tour, followed by a light lunch in Café Melba and of course, a trip to the gift shop, selling the award-winning range of distinguished single-malt whisky.
