At Community Update, we are pleased to announce that we have selected Evenley Wood Garden as the recipient of our Commitment to Excellence Award.
Situated in the southwest corner of Northamptonshire between Brackley and Buckingham, Evenley Wood Garden is open to the public every day, a side from the few days when it hosts private functions.
The wood has appeal for a wide range of ages and interests. From the dedicated plants enthusiast and those seeking a peaceful place to be at one with nature, to the families who want to take advantage of the children’s play area and lovely walks.
The wood extends to some 60 acres and has an unusual mix of acid and alkaline soil areas, enabling a much wider range of plants to thrive including unusual trees and shrubs to a wide selection of lilies and other bulbs.
The wood has year-round interest and holds host to many events including an annual rare plants fair, weddings, parties, Forest schools for children, a dog show, outdoor theatre productions, wellness walks, plus celebrations at Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Autumn, and snowdrop time. What’s more there are also special events that showcase the 100 magnolias, some 300 roses and 150 lilies on display.
Going into the latter stages of the year, many spectacular vistas can be seen when the autumn colours appear as the maples, oaks, acers and more of their trees start to transform the way the wood looks.; Autumn bulbs also begin to flower.
In closing we asked Alison O’Hare, Marketing & Events Coordinator how she felt receiving our award,
“Being chosen for the Commitment to Excellence is a huge honour. Our team of staff and volunteers work extremely hard to maintain, improve and develop the garden. Working in nature is a real labour of love, you encounter successes, and failures and even on the wettest, coldest days you have to push on because the garden never stands still. This award is entirely for them in recognition of their dedication.”
