In this issue of Community Update, we are delighted to select Briarlands Farm as the recipient of our Commitment to Excellence Award.
Briarlands Farm is in Blair Drummond, near Stirling in central Scotland and is open to the public, every day from 10 – 5.30pm, from mid-February until after the Christmas and New year period. The farm is a perfect family day out, with lots of activities to keep the children occupied, including a petting area with guinea pigs, rabbits and other farm animals.
Now that summer is here, there is strawberry-picking and the meadow maze, for all the family to enjoy. The ‘Grade A’ strawberries are grown in polytunnels and there is even a ‘quiet hour’ between 11am- 12pm for children or adults with sensory needs. Strawberry-lovers may need to wait a while though as the owners are currently waiting for the second crop to grow!
The farm park was established in 2006, with current owners: Mary & Robin Inglis taking over in 2016, who pride themselves on ‘family fun in the fresh air,’ as owner Mary explains,
“Our visitors can enjoy lots of open spaces with many play items, such as go-karts, jumping pillows, zip lines, tyre mazes, football and mini diggers. There are even tractor and trailer rides round the working farm part of the business, to get an insight into the daily life of a farmer.
In the Farmers’ Den café, we offer a variety of homemade lunch time delights, such as full Scottish breakfasts, homemade soup, jacket potatoes and a ploughman’s lunch. We have a full children’s menu and can cater for most allergens. You can visit the café without paying entry to the fun yard.
As well as our lunch menu we have an extensive range of home baking, tea, coffee, ice lollies and locally produced ice-cream, perfect for when the children are worn out from playing!”
Throughout the summer, there are pony rides every Tuesday and Thursday from 4th July- 8th August (except 3rd August), ideal for keeping children happy during the summer holidays.
“Looking towards Autumn, our next big event will be our annual big bonfire held on the Saturday night closest to Guy Fawkes Day and then we’ll have our Christmas on the Farm experience in December. We might squeeze in a tractor weekend at the end of September as well!”
For parents looking for a fun birthday venue, the farm hosts parties with animal petting, an extra fun-filled tractor and trailer ride round the farm, play time in the fun yard, followed by a delicious birthday feast.
