In this issue of Community Update, we are pleased to award Hawkins Distillery for its Commitment to Excellence.
Hawkins Distillery was born of founder Bryn Hawkins’ passion for creating handcrafted drinks. After trying his hand at beer and cider brewing, Bryn began to experiment with spirits, and the business took off. Calling it “a hobby that’s gone horribly right”, Bryn moved the distillery to a Grade 2 listed building in historic Sheffield and now it serves customers across the UK.
Primarily currently focussed on gin and vodkas, Hawkins Distillery prides itself on making excellent spirits made solely with real ingredients. Free from any flavourings or chemicals, Bryn’s explained the distillery’s use natural ingredients is all to do with taste and quality,
“It’s a more challenging way of doing it, but I just prefer the way it tastes. I prefer the longevity of the aftertaste. You can tell something’s been made naturally because you can taste the essence of the product long after you have drunk it.”
This focus on using the freshest, natural ingredients has yielded some interesting results for the distillery. Its chuckleberry vodka is one of the only full-strength versions on the market and its best-selling rhubarb and rosemary gin is made using Yorkshire rhubarb; creating a fresh, aromatic style.
With the exception of its special carbon polished vodka, Hawkins Distillery also adds botanicals to everything it makes. Hand selected by its head distiller, these ingredients are then dried, frozen and prepared in house to ensure peak condition.
Hawkins Distillery’ dedication to making something different is a breath of fresh air in the busy drinks and hospitality sector. Its commitment to only using real, natural ingredients delivers a product that is new, exciting and truly unique.
