Wheels of gravity!

The popular racing event returns to Barrow-in-Furness for the fourth time in August, with members of the public welcome to spectate along the fun-filled 340-metre route.

Last year, the hand-built soapboxes were customised with eye-catching themes like Batman and Super Mario, with racers dressed up in costumes. The 16-metre starting ramp is positioned at the top of Dalton Road, with racers competing to get the fastest lap time using only gravity.

Cando FM will be providing running commentary throughout the race, live on air, with the crowd cheering as the racers pass through a set of obstacles including the infamous foam ‘splash zone.’

“We have a set of seven awards to present to our 18 racers, including the three fastest speeds, Most Innovative Kart Design and Joker of the Day.

The racing starts at 10am, with the award ceremony at 5pm. It’s a great family day out, with many cafes, restaurants and shops open throughout the day for lunch

and shopping and a free interactive activity workshop for children. The fun doesn’t stop there, we have live evening entertainment hosted by Cando FM featuring local bands and DJs.

We had 31,000 spectators last year cheering on the colourful and beautifully engineered karts and supporting local businesses.
This is fast becoming one of the busiest social calendar events for the local community,” explained Jason Forsyth: Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
