The Chapel Gallery is situated in Glasshouses near Harrogate in North Yorkshire. It houses an exhibition of paintings and prints by acclaimed septuagenarian artist Neil Simone. The beautiful northern landscape captured the imagination of Neil in the 1960’s and after uprooting from London he started his career as a professional full-time artist. Neil’s paintings have featured in numerous prestigious galleries across Great Britain, Europe and the USA to appreciative audiences. His work has been critically acclaimed in art reviews, television documentaries and has sold to art collectors around the world.
Neil’s trademark oil paintings uniquely portray intersecting dreamlike perspectives of shapes, shadows and contradictions in nature and within interior spaces
“My paintings fuse the illusion and realism with a creative vision of limitless imagination. The creative mind can imagine anything. It’s the ability to realise and share that vision which opens the door to an alternative reality which we all experience in our dreams.”
Many of Neil’s commissions have included paintings of client’s homes with family members, pets and gardens. Once a preliminary sketch drawing is approved Neil uses oil paint to achieve the desired opaque underpainting levels with overlays of transparent colour for finer detail.
All the work can be viewed online and signed limited edition giclée and lithographic prints can be ordered internationally online. Original paintings can be bought framed or unframed from the Chapel Gallery directly. Neil enjoys welcoming prospective art collectors into his gallery
“To view an original painting or SLE print online is fine but to see an original painting in a Gallery, you can appreciate the scale, texture, detail and what went into creating it. To meet the artist, to ask questions and learn what inspiration lay behind the work is very special. For me to connect with the people who purchase my work is inspiring and to witness their genuine pleasure and excitement is all any artist can hope for.”
The light from the resplendent Chapel windows allows the paintings to be viewed in their myriad natural beauty. The painting’s finer details such as the tufty ombré fox fur, rippling pond reflections and fragments of Antarctic glacier are best seen in the quiet, contemplative Chapel space.
Neil is delighted to welcome art lovers to his beautiful Chapel Gallery during opening times from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm and by prior appointment outside these times. Much of Neil’s collection can be viewed on the website below.
