Christmas at Lincoln Cathedral!

In this issue of Great Days Out, we are delighted to showcase Lincoln Cathedral with our Commitment to Excellence Award.

Consecrated in the 11th century, Lincoln Cathedral has welcomed people through its doors for almost a thousand years, and is known as one of the great Cathedrals of the world, attracting visitors of all ages and nationalities.

This Christmas, Lincoln Cathedral welcomes visitors to come and celebrate this special time of year. Here are a few notable events that might interest you:

Lincoln Cathedral Shop Christmas Extravaganza 2024 – Wednesday 20th November 5pm-8pm.

Festive Family Day – Saturday 7th December 10am-3.30pm. Stop by the Table for the Nation to create your own Christingle to take home, or visit the Christmas Gazebo to make an advent wreath, craft an angel decoration, or listen to a Nativity story in the cozy stable corner. Also, why not also explore the Christmas Trail? If you finish the trail, you could be in with a chance to win an amazing prize!!

All family activities are included with your admission, and don’t forget, not only do children aged 16 and under visit free with a paying adult but if you Gift Aid your admission it automatically becomes an annual pass.

Carols by Candlelight – Two performances: Tuesday 10 December, 7pm & Wednesday 11 December, 7pm. Carols by Candlelight is in aid of the Association of the Friends of Lincoln Cathedral. The choir is conducted by Aric Prentice with Jeffrey Makinson playing the Cathedral’s renowned Father Willis organ.

The Snowman with Live Orchestra – Saturday 14th December – 11am, 1.30pm, 3pm, 7pm, 8.30pm & Sunday 15th December – 6pm, 7.30pm. Lincoln Cathedral presents a special screening of The Snowman in the Nave, supported by a live orchestra and Chorister from the Cathedral Choir.

Benjamin Britten’s a Ceremony of Carols – Saturday 21st December – 2pm and 7pm. Come to the Chapter House for the annual performance of this classic, festive favourite, performed by the Lincoln Cathedral voices and harpist Thea Maund. The performance will be conducted by Aric Prentice, Director of Music at Lincoln Cathedral.

Christmas Carol services – Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th December – 4pm

These much-loved Christmas services are at the very heart of what Lincoln Cathedral offers to the public at Christmas. Lessons and carols mark the start of Christmas for many families in Lincoln and beyond.
