We are a nation of dog lovers. The PDSA charity reports that 29% of adults own a dog, which equates to 11 million dogs around the country. Animal charities like the PDSA recommend that dogs have a daily routine. This includes regular walks (depending on breed/temperament), healthy, nutritious diets, nap times and some socialising with other dogs (again dependant on dog breed/temperament.) The difficulty often lies in balancing working with having a dog, which is where dog sitters come in.
I woof to Walk is an established dog sitting service in the Nottingham area. Established in 2018 by self-confessed dog-lover Rebecca Warren, the service offers a dog sitting daytime service whilst owners are at work in a ‘home from home’ setting. The dogs have free run of the downstairs accommodation, garden and have regular walks in the nearby park, with occasional car runs to the infamous Sherwood Forest. Many of the dogs now know each other and have formed friendly, playful relationships

“I have the dream job as I have loved dogs since I was a young child. I’ve known many of the dogs and their owners for many years, with many travelling from surrounding areas like Arnold, Carlton or Netherfield. It’s really important to build up trust with the dogs and their owners and this often leads to dog boarding when the owner goes away on one- or two-week holidays. Sometimes the dogs (or their owners!) get separation anxiety at the start but I soon help the dogs settle in. On my Facebook page, I regularly post videos of the dogs walking, playing and napping, which reassures the owner throughout the day. Many owners also ask for Facetime phone calls, when they are missing their dogs!
Dog owners bring their own dog foods, which I can store in the freezer during boarding and I will separate all the dogs’ foods, to mitigate against allergies and can easily administer medication, if required.”
Rebecca is also a dog groomer and offers ad hoc appointments during the week and weekend and is busy putting the final touches to her purpose-built dog grooming area in her garden. With full insurance across dog sitting, walking, boarding and grooming, dog owners know their dogs are protected and looked after at all times.
“I hold doggy first-aid accreditation, so can administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if required and live near a vet, if required. I have looked after many different dog breeds: from Spaniels, Dalmatians, Jack Russell Terriers, to Shih Tzus, and spend time, helping the dogs acclimatise to each other,” added Rebecca.
