Shop local: pay it forward to local Leicestershire and Rutland suppliers

Shopping local supports the local economy and builds a stronger community network. From local artisan cheesemakers to organic seasonal vegetables, shopping local cycles money back into the local economy and fosters an unbreakable community spirit.

The Stoughton Grange Farm Shop is the perfect opportunity to shop local. Situated in Oadby, Leicester the shop has recently opened after a major refurbishment from The Steamin’ Billy Group: owners of some of Leicestershire and Derbyshire’s best food pubs.

The newly unveiled shop now hosts a 50-foot-long butchery, deli, fruit n’ veg grocery, award-winning bakery produce, dairy milk vending machines, on-site café and a gin-distillery for gin-lovers. This one-stop shop is perfect for a weekly shop, to pick up specific food produce or to meet friends for gin-tasting or afternoon tea. Zoe Lane, Business Enhancement Coordinator explains more about the farm shop’s ethos,

“Over 75% of our shop is from local suppliers within the Leicestershire and Rutland area, reducing our food miles and carbon footprint. The farm shop is an extension of the farm park on site and can offer a truly great day out for all the family.

We offer a full range of organic, vegan, gluten and dairy free products, so there is something for everyone.

We don’t use plastic bags and use sustainable packaging for our own items. We are also part of the too good to go app.”

The app has 12.1M users, across 24,807 active businesses and aims to reduce food waste across the country. Every day, users can source reduced food at a fraction of the price from food retailers and suppliers: a perfect remedy in a cost-of-living crisis, offering a sustainable solution to UK food poverty prices.

Resident expert butchers: Gareth and Nick are happy to advise on cooking and recipe tips, across the whole produce from pies, scotch eggs, pork pies and fresh meat. Customers can pre-order produce and hampers can be made all-year-round, with 24 hours’ notice.

If you’re looking for seasonable vegetables to complete your meat dish: fresh, 100% organic produce is grown in the on-site polytunnels and available to buy from the shop. The bakery stocks award-winning Oakham Hambleton Bakery produce: delicious artisan bread and pastries, perfect for breakfast and lunches. Multi-great taste award winners Cakehead provide delectable brownies, flapjacks and shortbreads, to eat in the on-site café or enjoy at home.

The deli is worth a solo visit for its extensive range of cheeses, including Sparkenhoe Red Leicester: the world’s only unpasteurised red Leicester.
