Showcasing the Best of Perthshire Agriculture

The Perth Show is a long-standing and cherished event in the heart of Perth, Scotland, with a rich heritage that spans over 158 years. It has played a central role in the region’s agricultural and social calendar since its inception, reflecting the changing nature of rural life and community values over time.

Organised by The Perthshire Agricultural Society, The Perth Show’s mission is to promote and support agriculture, rural life and local communities across Perthshire. By showcasing the region’s agricultural heritage, livestock and farming practices; the society aims to encourage education and awareness of agriculture and celebrate farming excellence.

Held on 1st and 2nd of August this year, visitors can look forward to an exciting showcase of agriculture, community and entertainment. Friday features a full day of equestrian competition classes, including ridden and in-hand hunters, as well as mountain and moorland breeds. Saturday then provides the finest displays of cattle, sheep, horses, donkeys and goats.

The Perth Show is renowned for its extensive livestock exhibitions, featuring over 350 showing classes across two days. While livestock competitions remain at its core, the show now features a wide range of attractions, including food and craft stalls, vintage tractors, dog agility demonstrations, and educational displays. This shift reflects a broader community focus, attracting families and urban residents as well as farmers.

The show has also placed increased emphasis on educating the public about food production, sustainability and rural life this year. Initiatives involving local schools and young farmers’ clubs help nurture the next generation’s interest in agriculture and there’s a plethora of activities designed to educate and entertain young minds.

When asked how it felt to receive the award, Perthshire Agricultural Society secretary Jen Leslie told us,

“We’re incredibly honoured to receive the Commitment to Excellence Award for our role in promoting Perth Show. The show has been a cornerstone of the community for generations, and it’s been a privilege to help share its legacy, values, and vibrancy with a wider audience. This recognition means a great deal—not just to me personally, but also as a reflection of the passion and dedication of everyone involved in bringing the show to life each year.”
