In this issue of Community Update, we are pleased to announce that we have selected Greenwich Theatre as the recipient of our Commitment to Excellence Award.
In the Royal borough of Greenwich you’ll find Greenwich Theatre – one of London’s foremost Off-West End theatres. With a mission to inspire, educate and entertain, Greenwich Theatre uses the power of imagination, community and theatre to provide an award-winning programme that not only contributes to the wellness of those in its surrounding community but to the UK arts sector as a whole.
Giving back to the community is integral to every aspect of its work, and this includes its several schemes that allow all audiences to get involved. The friendship scheme includes the option of three yearly memberships: single – £50 a year, shared £70, and family £100. Within the membership customers get 50% off nearly every production at the theatre, as well as free tickets throughout the year, and invitations to special events.
“We had our 50th anniversary gala night this summer to which many of our long-standing supporters and friendship scheme members attended. This plays a big part of our involvement in the community. We also have a Greenwich grad scheme which offers recent graduates a free membership where they can get £5 tickets on the day to performances that aren’t sold out. We think this is a great way to provide young people with better access to the arts,” stated Lucie Morgado, Marketing Manager.
Following its 2019 Offie Award winning Sleeping Beauty and its 2021 nomination for The Queen Of Hearts, Greenwich Theatre’s annual award-winning pantomime this year sees the return of Robin Hood with performance dates beginning 24th November 2022 through to 8th January 2023.
If comedy is your thing, then CC4K CHRISTMAS CRACKER ’22 is a real highlight for children. Expect Christmas themed jokes, a Santa performing stand-up and many more activities to get you in the festive mood.
If you’re looking for something more traditional, the one-man show by actor John O’Connor sees the recreation of the famous Charles Dickens story – A Christmas Carol, running from 12-19 December.
With much of the funding being cut from the arts community and challenges that COVID-19 presented, Greenwich Theatre has built itself back into a position that is one of optimism and hope for a bright future. With the success of its summer Gala night that has induced a resounding support and deeper integration within the community, Greenwich Theatre’s future is set for an explosive 2023.
