Local Quality Arts at the Alexandra Theatre

At Community Update, we take pride in showcasing the very best services provided by people, companies and charities that provide a wealth of benefits for their community. As such, in this issue we are proud to announce that we have selected the Alexandra Theatre as the recipient of our Commitment to Excellence Award.

Opened in 1980, the Alexandra Theatre is a friendly and vibrant venue in the seaside town of Bognor Regis, where visitors can enjoy a wide range of entertainment from dance, musicals, drama, music and family events. The theatre has changed over the years, but is headed for an exciting redevelopment in 2023 to bring the venue right up to date.

Alexandra Theatre has its big family pantomime kicking off on the 7th of December which this year is Beauty and the Beast. Marketing Manager Caroline Bennett told us, “This promises to be the biggest and best pantomime of them all. With stunning scenery, lavish costumes, a super talented cast, memorable songs and laughs galore, it is just what you need for some festive fun this season. This year’s panto offers something for everyone in the family, whether you are 3 or 103!”

Before then, there are still other fantastic shows coming from local talented community groups, classical music recitals, music, and the in-house Comedy Club. There are also regular monthly events including the ‘2 o’clock club’ which provides affordable high-end entertainment for Seniors on a Tuesday matinee, and the regular ’60 minutes of Classical Music’ concerts.

The Alexandra Theatre contains three studios, which host a number of workshops that local communities can get involved with. Caroline continued, “We have our regular half term Family Fun Weeks which offer lots of free activities for local families. There is also lots to get involved with in our main Theatre with the various arts communities who use our venue.”

There is also a lovely café serving a selection of sweet treats and snacks, plus a wide range of coffees and delicious cakes, as well as afternoon treats like scones, teacakes and crumpets. Outside seating is available near the seaside.

As previously mentioned, the theatre is also heading for a major refurbishment in 2023 which is very exciting. It will bring the venue right up to date with a high quality, modern, environmentally sound arts venue for the people of Bognor Regis and visitors to the area.
