Magic and Mystery in The Wirral

In this issue of Community Update, we are pleased to award Poulton Hall Gardens for its Commitment to Excellence.

Situated in the Wirral area, Poulton Hall is a 17th-century (on the foundations of an earlier 14th-century) country house with a lot to offer. The Grade II listed building was originally constructed in 1653 and over the centuries has been extended to include a 17th-century brewhouse and its famous Walled Gardens.

Today, Poulton Hall Walled Gardens are maintained with the help of a charitable trust as a not for profit venture. Over the years the historic site has won acclaim for its quirky gardens, stunning event spaces and the trust’s contributions to gardening.

The house’s famed Walled Gardens are particularly impressive. Featuring an 11th-century monument at its entrance, this charming garden was designed to evoke magic and make-believe with sculptures of famous literary figures throughout.

Open to the public several times a year, the Gardens welcome visitors again on the 4th and 5th of July. Guests can enjoy the peaceful parkland, cream teas, and musical or other entertainment. What’s more, children are admitted free, making for an inexpensive, but unforgettable day out.

The Walled Gardens are also available for private functions. Its fairy tale surroundings provide a unique, picture-perfect background for weddings especially. Whether an intimate afternoon tea, a larger BBQ celebration, or something in between; Poulton Hall Gardens works closely with its guests to help create their dream day.

As well as hosting events in its magical Walled Gardens, Poulton Hall Gardens also runs a gardeners’ apprentice scheme which teaches gardeners the skills they need for professional work. Apprentices from Poulton have gone on to work at Abbeyfield and Bridgemere, and the site is always looking for keen gardeners to join their dedicated group of volunteers.

Even with a busy summer ahead Poulton Hall Gardens don’t slow down when winter comes. November 28th- 29th sees the return of the historic venue’s Winter Wonderland Walks. Held after-dark, this unique experience gives children the opportunity to explore literature in the garden under lantern light and capture the magic of storytelling, with an element of mystery.

So, whether you are looking for a tranquil day out for the whole family, a bespoke venue for your big day or keen on developing your skills as a gardener, Poulton Hall has something for everyone. Book today at ticketsource.co.uk and experience the magic of Poulton Hall Gardens firsthand.
