Small start-up gin company wins prestigious awards

Melton Mowbray is widely known as the ‘rural capital of food,’ with its infamous pork pies and stilton cheese and now with award-winning Meadowcourt gin it is fast becoming the ‘rural capital of gin.’

Owner Lisa Leonard was inspired after visiting a gin distillery on the remote, rugged Isle of Skye in Scotland. After researching feasibility options with existing local distillers she settled on one that took her liking. Lisa had in the meantime forensically researched the history of her own house and used this as inspiration for the name of her gin range

“ We moved into a beautiful old house called Meadowcourt nearly six years ago and I’d done a lot of research regarding the house and found that since it was built in 1914, we were the 7th owners and I had managed to trace the previous 6 owners history and established when they had all lived in the house and I wanted to do something to cement our time in the house so I decided what better way than to combine it with my love of collecting gin, hence Meadowcourt Gin was born.”

Since the company was established in 2021 it has already won three prestigious awards including LSC Bronze 2022 in the London Spirits Competition and IWSC Bronze Award 2022.

Lisa sells her signature vegan London dry gin directly from her website in a 50cl and smaller 5cl bottle with accompanying tempting tonics such as blood orange and elderflower flavour. Having completed a marathon of recent local events such as The Melton Food & Drink Festival in the Autumn and the 20th Annual Beer, Cider and Gin Festival, Lisa has firmly moved her premium handcrafted gins onto the Melton Mowbray gin circuit. Looking ahead to 2023 Meadowcourt Gin will be featuring at many more local food, drink and gift fayres.

Lisa has developed her connoisseur knowledge of gin with her website offering tasing recipes for cocktail gins such as The 1914 Meadowcourt made with Lisa’s trademark gin and lashings of grenadine. All gins are hand labelled and numbered individually giving a lovely handcrafted feel. Lisa and her husband Adam pride themselves on giving the personal touch with home deliveries within the Melton area and bespoke personalised bottles for special occasions.
