Award-winning milliner, creating beautiful bespoke headpieces for every occasion

At Community Update, we are committed to bringing to light the dedicated services provided by companies, organisations and people, that enrich the lives of their community. As such, in this issue we are proud to announce that we have selected Anne Reeder Millinery as the recipient of our Commitment to Excellence Award.

Since 1713, the term milliner came to mean a man or a woman who designs, makes and sells bonnets and other headgear for women. Such famous fashion designers like Coco Channel were milliners in their time, and millinery played a huge part in the industrialisation during the nineteenth century. Fast forward to the 21st century and millinery is still a vital service that is relied upon throughout the UK by many women.

Building on her experience as a fashion designer, boutique owner and her love of sewing and wearing hats, Anne Reeder is an award-winning milliner who graduated from Kensington and Chelsea College and Janie Lashford’s School of Millinery before establishing her own millinery business in 2015.

“Millinery is my retirement career and builds on my existing skills and interests. I mostly make and design bespoke headwear where I can cater to all individual requirements. I also have a ready to wear collection that is sold on my website and through Etsy,” stated Anne.

Crafted by hand using both traditional and modern techniques, Anne can incorporate a number of materials into any hat design including silk, lace, flowers, felt, straw, and leather, as well as using customers old dresses or cut offs of a dress to make a headpiece to match the desired outfit.

Out of her home studio, Anne can design and create any hat for any occasion. The Bridal collection that, includes hats, headbands and fascinators, for brides and their bridesmaids can be made to match any colour scheme, and cut to size to fit any sized head. In the past I have included jewellery, a piece of fabric or other small items for the something old, borrowed or blue for the bride.  Our picture hats and headpieces are also popular for mothers of the bride and groom and wedding guests,” mentioned Anne.

Anne Reeder Millinery offers a reasonably priced service that is welcoming, trustful and fun. Her hats are beautiful, original and bespoke, and as well as weddings, her hats have been seen at Ascot Ladies Day, Buckingham Palace Garden Parties and The Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Further to Anne’s design services, she also delivers talks, demonstrations and workshops on how to make fascinators and head pieces, and offers 2-hour workshops where groups can come and make their own accompanied by afternoon tea. This is a perfect idea for a hen or birthday party!

Following customer enquiries, Anne is looking to begin a hat hire service alongside her continuous training. Work on her Autumn/Winter collection is well underway where she mentioned, “I will be using upcycled material in this collection.”
