Community Update would like to congratulate Cley Windmill on receiving our Commitment to Excellence Award.
Cley Windmill is a wedding venue with spectacular, panoramic views of Cley and Salthouse Marshes on the Cromer shoal chalk reef in Norfolk. This is the perfect choice for a private, intimate wedding or a larger one, surrounded by family and friends.
The windmill is thought to have been built in early 1800s and used as a flour mill until 1921, when it was lovingly restored into a private dwelling. For the last 100 years, it has functioned as a joint home and popular holiday accommodation. We caught up with current owners, Natalie and Varian Bush to find out more about this unusual wedding venue,
“We bought the property in 2021 and knew instantly that it would make the perfect wedding venue. We made some internal modifications, such as adding a bar, summer garden café and a marquee for larger-sized wedding parties, whilst maintaining the traditional exterior.
Our couples choose Cley Windmill initially for the fact it is such a stunning building with so much history and very unique for photos. But also, because they can really tailor the day around their tastes, with a smaller space that is so cosy they can choose to have their day as traditional or informal as they wish.”
The windmill offers stunning Norfolk light and backdrops for serene, fairy-tale wedding photographs. Sunset photos are adored by wedding photographers, with the golden orange hues lighting up the couples’ faces, framed by the mystical Cley and Salthouse Marshes.
Cley Windmill has hosted over 200 weddings, each unique and memorable. Natalie and Varian told us about one particular wedding day,
“The most unusual wedding we have had was a steam punk themed wedding we had last year, with everyone really getting into the theme with their outfits. The couple were absolutely brilliant and had the theme flow throughout including the cake, music and decorations.”
Each prospective couple receives a designated wedding coordinator, to help the day go seamlessly. The full wedding package includes the ceremony room, marquee, overnight accommodation and breakfast, as well as furniture: tables and chairs and full dining cutlery and crockery, leaving the couple to focus on more important things.
Prospective couples are welcome to visit The Cley Windmill wedding fair on the Saturday 18th and Sunday19th March to see the ceremony space, gardens, bedrooms and the famous marsh views. Natalie and Varian are delighted to offer wedding couples 20% off a stay between booking and their wedding day.
