Popular roadside eatery serves traditional, comfort food in the heart of Yorkshire

In this issue of Community Update, we are awarding The Outside Inn with our Service Provider of the Year Award.

The Outside Inn is on the A59 near Harrogate, a charming roadside luxury coffee shop. Owners Mark and Teresa Trickett serve hearty breakfasts, lunchtime toasties, through to the staple Sunday carvery. With a newly added farm gift shop, the Outside Inn attracts passing trade and tourists. We chatted to Mark to find out more,

“Teresa is an ex-head chef and decided to use her skills of old to revitalise the cafe-come-restaurant that once existed here.

The facilities, service, product mix and pricing we’ve adopted should hopefully see those nearest to us, have this as a preferred destination for meeting friends, relaxing and enjoying some simple homely treats at a value you don’t find in town.”

The Outside Inn bills itself as serving ‘old fashioned, comfort food’ with perennial favourites such as cottage pie, ham egg and chips and pork chops. There is always a soup of the day, to warm up diners on a cold, wintery day and a delicious range of homemade cakes for an afternoon treat. The Sunday carvery is extremely popular every week,

“Even during the quiet spell of January, it has proven to be extremely popular and we now have clients travelling from Skipton, Ripon, York and Leeds to come visit us.”

With such close proximity to the Yorkshire Dales, Mark and Teresa made the decision to be a dog-friendly café, which locals appreciate,

“Being in a rural area we do find that on balance most clients are animal lovers and we didn’t want to alienate those who have pets. We even go so far as to treat every pet that comes in and we give them a dedicated wrapped sausage!”

Customers love The Outside Inn and leave gushing reviews, praising its friendly service, vegetarian and gluten free options and delicious food.  One reviewer wrote,

“Excellent, service with a smile, lovely atmosphere and well-spaced tables and comfortable chairs. The scones were to die for, freshly out of the oven and served with jam and cream.”

The team were delighted to receive the award but added,

“Being recognised and winning this award is amazing but our aim was to simply provide people with a destination that both myself and Teresa would want to visit and have good folk recognise the value in what was being offered.”
