The Rockfield Centre invites you to celebrate Earth Month this April 2023. Inspired by Earth Day, a global environment movement which marks its anniversary every year on April 22nd, The Rockfield Centre has dedicated its April programming to a host of workshops, talks and live performances with a focus on expanding local education on environmental issues and celebrating the natural world.
IONAD ACHADH NA CREIGE meaning Centre of the Rock Field in Scottish Gaelic, was established by the Oban Communities Trust in 2014 when they took over the ownership of the former Rockfield School building in the centre of Oban. From the beginning the ambition of the Trust was to transform the building into a creative cultural hub for the town.
Since then, the Trust is now run by a small staff team and community of volunteers who have carried on the progression of cultural activity on the site under the four themes of Arts & Culture, History & Heritage, Community Wellbeing, and Education & Enterprise.
Over the month of April 2023, there will be many projects which you can get involved in. These include a family theatre show of Two in a Barrel, an Outdoor Film Festival, Photography Workshop, Free Children’s Whales and Dolphin Talks and Climate Change Workshops, an Art Exhibition, Sustainability Market, Poetry Reading & Workshop, Book Binding Workshop, Family Seed Bomb Workshops, Eco Cleaning Product Workshop and so much more.
Furthermore, The Rockfield Centre also offers an interactive KidSpace that is an area within the Centre themed around Oban’s heritage where children and families can go to play and discover together. Offering various levels of playing and learning, adults can freely follow self-guided activities to explore ideas further with children on topics such as the heritage of Oban, what life was like during difficult periods, and what it was like to live in Oban many years ago.
The Rockfield Centre is Situated in Oban Town Centre at Rockfield Brae and is easily accessible on foot or by car, train, bus and ferry.
